Newcastle Dogie Senior Mitch Weigel has been selected to the Wyoming Class 3A All-State basketball team. Mitch was one of four seniors on this years state qualifying squad, and finished as the Dogies leading scorer.

Three Newcastle Dogies have been selected to the 3A East All-Conference basketball team. Madi Lacy earned honors on the girls side while both Mitch Weigel and Jeremy Feist were named to the boys squad.

The Newcastle Dogies basketball team led for most of 32 minutes against Powell on Thursday from the Casper Event Center, but were unable to hold off a late rally falling 54-51 in the consolation semi-finals to the Panthers. The Newcastle Dogies came out in the first round of the 3A Boys State Basketball tournament with a solid first half effort against the Lyman Eagles but only hit on five shots from the field in the second half in a 63-32 loss. The Newcastle Dogie boys basketball team picked up wins over Rawlins 52-49 and Buffalo 61-57 in Overtime to secure a spot at the 3A State Tournament this week in Casper. The Newcastle boys and girls basketball teams finished up their regular season last week, each going 1-1 over the weekend. The Dogie boys defeated Wheatland on Friday 44-38 before dropping a game on the road to Glenrock 43-41.
