The Burrall Blog – Paul Harvey, 1918-2009
2/28/09 – 10:12 PM
As I have stated, occasionally these posts will be about something other than sports, including this one.
Paul Harvey’s passing truly marks the end of what radio once was. His dedication to inform and educate the public has been matched by literally very few. And do you know anyone who had the same job for 58 years? Paul Harvey did.
Yes, Paul Harvey started with ABC Radio in 1951. Two years later, when KASL signed on for the first time, Paul Harvey was heard in Newcastle (along with Chet Huntley, who hadn’t jumped to NBC yet). So, in an extended way, AM 1240 has lost a long-time family member.
I’m honored to present “The Rest of the Story” during “Newcastle Afternoon” each weekday. However, it will never be the same. Of course, neither will “News and Comment.” And neither will our industry. There will never be another like Paul Harvey, whose longevity, dedication and professionalism should be a model for anyone in any line of work.

Newcastle Dogies Matt Gregory and Nick Pisciotti were named to the North roster of the Wyoming Shrine Bowl, which will be played on Saturday, June 13th in Casper at 7:00 PM at Natrona County High School.
Gregory was named a 3A All-State player for the third straight season, rushing for 529 yards and 5 touchdowns. Matt also averaged 11 yards on 6 punt returns and recorded 41 tackles (17 solo), an interception, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 sacks. Pisciotti, also an All-State player, was 3rd in 3A receiving yards with 459 on 29 catches and 3 touchdowns. Nick also had 5 kickoff returns and averaged just over 23 yards, made 22 tackles (12 solo), recovered 3 fumbles and blocked 2 kicks.
Pisciotti was honored again recently, as he and Kade Ferguson became the first two Newcastle High School players to be named as candidates for the McDonald’s All-American Team. Through February 14, Pisciotti was averaging 17.1 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Ferguson had averages of 14.7 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, with 49 blocked shots.
