The Burrall Blog – Unbelievable!

I tried to think of the correct word for the above headline to describe the Broncos. There were others I could have used, but this is a clean website.
Just about any other NFL team who played as badly as the Broncos did in their 52-21 loss at San Diego to end their season and complete the loss of a 3-game division lead with 3 games to go (a first since the start of divisional play) would fire their coach and make many personnel changes (except maybe for the Cowboys, who may been in even worse shape than the Broncos).
But, a coaching change almost certainly won’t happen. Let’s face it. Pat Bowlen and Mike Shanahan will always be buddy-buddy because of those two Super Bowl wins. And some personnel changes may happen, although injuries were a factor this year.
However, injuries can’t erase the fact that this may have been the worst season-long defensive performance in Denver’s 49 seasons of pro football. It culminated with an absolute give-up effort in the loss in San Diego. LaDanian Tomlinson and others on the Chargers ran well and Philip Rivers’ passes torched an inept secondary.
How could the Broncos not win this division? The Chargers’ defense wasn’t much better than the Broncos’. The Chiefs had their worst season ever with only 2 wins – but one of those was over the Broncos. And the Raiders — well, they’re the Raiders. But they beat the Broncos.
If you’re a Bronco fan, you should be upset. Your team let you down in a big way. You should demand that Pat Bowlen do something to fix it, and in my opinion, that’s to start over — new coaches, new quarterback, new kicker, new defense. Well, don’t hold your breath for any of that. Just prepare for more mediocrity.

You said on the radio that you don’t follow any NFL team so what gives you the right to complain about the Broncosor the Cowboys. If you are going to dish the Broncos or the Cowboys look a little closer to home and the good old boys that continue to keep the present head football coach and football staff for the Dogies. What a joke. And I am sick and tired of everyone of the coaches blaming the kids. Come on. The talent is there. The coaching isn’t. If you can say it about the Broncos or the Cowboys then you should say it about the Dogie football program. Whoops – what program — it’s a joke–and if you follow high school football in this state you would hear how everyone laughs at anyone who says they are even close to affiliated with that program…..
Pennie:
I was not complaining. I expressed my opinion that the Broncos’ performance in San Diego was terrible, and that Broncos fans should expect a lot more from their favorite franchise than they’ve had lately.
To answer the question: What gives you the right, etc.? What gives me the right is freedom of speech, just as you have that same right and have exercised it, and we very much appreciate that.
As for the Dogies, you have your right to that opinion, too. And if you don’t like the way the football program is going, I suggest that you express it with vigor to those that run WCSD #1. In the two seasons that I have covered the program, I have never heard of instances where coaches blame kids for losses. I’d like to think they know better than that. If you have heard otherwise, again, let those in charge know.
Why don’t I make statements on the air about Dogie football like I did about the Broncos? Well, there’s a big difference. There are high school athletes on one hand. They’re kids. There’s no call for me to just rip them. That just would not be proper. On the other hand, the Broncos are professional athletes, presumably with some pride in what they’re paid to do. They didn’t play with much pride – or effort – in San Diego in a game they knew they had to win to make the playoffs.
Thanks for listening. – David
